ARC Welding Course
About The Course
The ARC (Shielded Metal Arc Welding – SMAW) Course at MSD Mechanical Skill Developing Centre provides foundational and advanced training in one of the oldest and most reliable welding techniques. Also known as stick welding, ARC welding is widely used in construction, pipelines, shipbuilding, and heavy fabrication due to its versatility and strength.
This course blends theoretical learning with practical, hands-on experience, ensuring students gain the confidence and skills required to perform quality welds under various conditions and environments.
What will you learn
✅ Introduction to ARC Welding: Learn about the SMAW process, welding machines, and electrode types.
✅ Welding Positions & Joints: Practice in various positions (1G–6G) and common joint types (butt, lap, corner, tee).
✅ Electrode Selection & Polarity: Understanding electrode types, coding, and current settings for different materials.
✅ Metal Preparation: Cleaning and prepping materials for strong weld penetration.
✅ Arc Striking Techniques: Proper arc initiation, maintaining arc length, and travel speed.
✅ Safety Measures & PPE: Detailed guidance on personal protective equipment and safe working practices.
✅ Defect Detection & Repair: Identifying common defects such as slag inclusion, undercutting, and spatter—and how to correct them.
✅ Hands-On Welding Practice: Supervised practice sessions on steel structures and plates.
